1950 RCA model 6-T-65 TV... I hate to get rid of it but...

I hate to get rid of it as its entire life has been with my family, but I need the space it is taking, and any money I might receive from it would be helpful. It does nothing when turned on except make a 60 Hz. hum, but I believe it is all there, and it looks great.

At this point I'm committed to parting with it, but how do I determine a fair asking price? If anyone has some guidelines for this please let me know.

TV consoles usually cost more than their value to ship so the value depends on what it's worth to those close enough to come get it themselves.

There's different types of buyers too. TV collectors care that the CRT is good as replacements for that 16GP4 are hard to find (I somehow ended up with 2 recently). Repurposers will gut the electronics and ruin it for the rest of us down the road. Decorators sometimes pay more but don't always preserve these so it could end up antique white or repurposed...

Local market value varies wildly from place to place. Here in the Midwest that's probably a $25-100 set. In California that might be a $200 TV, some other places you'll be lucky to give it away, and in some places you won't be able to give it away and will have to pay a electronic recycler ~ $30 to dispose of it since garbage men aren't allowed to take it anymore...

That's a KCS-47 chassis. I fixed one in a different cabinet once. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rQ99Xut9yrc

It can always be worse!

It can be complicated like.
“Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra.”

Or a real mess like.
“Shaka, When the Walls Fell.”

Or a screw up like.
“Zinda, his eyes red!”

Or a REAL disaster like.
“Zaphod Beeblebrox at the Frogstar!”

That is a nice set. Probably $50 or less here in NJ. I have given sets away just to get them into a home.

No such thing ever existed......

Take it from someone who owned 3 of them at various times over the years, the Ford car's name was "Galaxie"

I'm pretty sure that's the first chassis that RCA used their then new direct drive air core horizontal output transformer in. That set has obviously been well cared for and deserves a good home in someones collection.

Edit: I was mistaken, it is in fact a direct drive horz output but they had gone to a ferrite core transformer. T164(KCS40) used the original aircore flyback.

Yes it has spent it's lifetime within 5 miles of the factory where it was built! 3 generations of my family worked there at RCA, including myself. But the best thing I got from there was my beautiful wife!
