Predicta
I finally recapped all the electrolytic capacitors and the old wax capacitors and all I got was a picture with no vertical sweep. While trying to fix it my 5.6 ohm fusible resistor finally broke. The sand like coating on it has crumbled and caused fish paper that the high resistance wire is wrapped around to finally crumble as well. The high resistant wire maybe still good. How can I substitute a new part? The chassis no. is 11L43. It was recommend to use SAMS 466-Folder 1
Thanks for any help. Ross |

Reuse the pins and solder in a 5.6 ohm 5 watt resistor. If you are a purist then include a 3/4 amp slo blow pigtail fuse is series with the resistor.
You may also find a correct part. There are loads of universal fuse resistors around since they were very common in late 50s and early 60s black and white TVs. Don |

I still have original Philco Predicta new old stock fuse resistors. I've been asking $10, postage included.

Ken,
Thanks for the fuse resistor. I had a brief problem with the vertical output tube not lighting. After I corrected that I got a picture with no sync either horizontal or vertical. The horizontal and vertical controls do not change anything. I found out too that I need to recoat the flyback with silicone. The layer was too thin and the high voltage has made a hole in the silicone and is causing a sizzle. I guess I need to try the sync separator tube and circuitry. Below is the scan of the TV with a full and bright picture. Ross |

Center the horizontal hold control. Then adjust the horizontal frequency pot, which is located just to the right of the 1143 mark, lower right side (as viewed from the rear).
If the picture stabilizes horizontally, adjust the vertical hold to stop the rolling. |

I replaced most of the caps and now I only have a minor problem with the vertical will not strench out the full screen. This is a picture I took tonight.

The vertical lin pot is a common offender. Make sure it goes the full range.
