Saved a couple CTC16's!

Well I went back to the house yesterday where I found the Zenith and RCA last week. I am thankful the guy put that note on the RCA stating he had more sets!
As the two pics show, the basement was a mess and good stuff was buried everywhere! The 16 that was down there looked like heck and I thought it may only be a parts set, I was very wrong! Looks like the only reason he stuck it down there was the pva problem, it has a new flyback and the original crt checks as strong as a new one! After slowly powering it up from 28 years of sleep it came up perfectly with a sharp picture! I couldn't stop after that and disassembled and cleaned the set and removed the pva.
I got a bunch of other hard to find 19" tube table color sets, as well as another 16 from the attic. So even though my back is about shot I am quite pleased!

Wow, Cap'n, what a great haul! Can't believe you got that RCA looking so good so quickly (and that's a cool lamp, too)!
Looking forward to seeing pictures of the other treasures.

It's simple. I'm obsessed! I started last night with all the disassembly and cleaning and finished up this morn with the crt and reassembly. Also, the set already worked so there really wasn't that much to do as far as a resto.
I don't plan on everyday use so I left the 'lytics alone.
I really doubt if another find like this will happen so close to me again, heck it was almost within walking distance!

That is amazing, after 28 years to awaken from the depths of a basement! The kind of basement we collectors dream of finding! Congrats.

I just saw the good Captain's CTC-16 in person... Beautiful.. I'm not even a big RCA guy, but this looked like a very classy, premium set.

I now begin to write the post with MY finds....

Here's the other CTC-16 rescued by captainmoody. Thanks for the TV Dwight! Turned out to be a nice set after alot of cleaning, replacing all the electrolytics, a dozen caps and the crystal. The picture tube tests as weak but still looks good to me. I've attached photos showing the progress. You can view a few videos of the set in operation at http://www.vintagejukes.com/pages/21/index.htm

Wow - nice work! That looks great! Great finds, great finds indeed. I wish there was someone like that around here with sets to get rid of - that set looks beautiful. I like that cabinet style. Wish I had one like that. Keep up the good work.
