Cataract Removal Question

I have an RCA CTC-28 that I would like to soon get going. It was our first color set dating to about 1967. It is in good condition except for the CRT which is very tired. I have an NOS Channel Master rebuild for it but it too has the dreaded cataract.

I have never removed a cataract before. I know that Tom (Electronic M) has quite a lot of experience with them. I live in NE Florida so, outdoor sun at this time of the year may help.

Here is the question. Is the "Safety Glass" actually glass or is it plastic? I realise that I need to remove it... C A R E F U L L Y.

I appreciate your responses.
