Ram x070 fly replacement for zenith
HELLO; I have a ram x070 replacement for my 51 zenith chassis that uses a s-17233 fly, and want to know if anyone out there has ever used the x070 replacement, ( this fly also replaces s-17130-s-17140- and s-17265). having trouble with the wiring hook-up ???. Could some one give me the correct terminal connections for the application???. I have had past problems with the old fly, when I advance the horiz drive to get the correct width and brightness on screen , the 5u4 starts to glow. thanks chip

have you checked the capacitors around the damper and horizontal osc and drive stage?
Also, if possible check the negative drive on the horizontal output tube. I would check output current as the problem doesn't sound like a flyback. Is it running hot? My Admiral would draw excessive current thru the HV stage when a boost cap went leaky. |

ok : so far I have fouund an open 100k resistor, vert mv plate r-75 . at pin 5 of v-14 vert mult 6sn7 tube. I have the new x070 in place and wired according to the replacement directions.could this resistor make it run hot ???

That can cause no vertical sweep. It won't affect horizontal current. Can you get any kind of high voltage with the drive at minimum?
Have you tried disconnecting the HV rectifier tube cap (make sure the set is off) and checking the current draw on the horizontal output stage when turned back on? One note! Be careful doing this as it will want to arc to anything close to the cap lead and will get your attention in a bad way if it whacks you. A shorted HV rectifier can cause excessive horizontal output current also. Last edited by Zenith26kc20; 05-11-2010 at 03:43 PM. Reason: more warning needed! |

Yes I am getting hv to the tube, with the horiz drive set at min, just the raster is not bright enough, this chassis has had all the caps some out of range or open resistors replaced, could the 1b3 base, high voltage filter be open or shorted??(all tubes are good)

Hey chip
Another question. When you say you have HV to the tube, is it the cap of the 1B3 when disconnected? Do you still have an arc with it connected as good as when disconnected? The doorknob cap (under the 1B3) could be leaky if the set loses it's HV on the cap of the 1B3 when this bad. I've never seen one open but have conneted sets without them and the set still played OK. Also, does the 5U4 get red when drive is turned up with the 1B3 cap disconnected? I have to dig a schematic out this weekend to work on the RAM fly connections. |
