450 Volt Caps

Hi All;
I am looking for caps at 450 volts, I looked at Mouser, which has been suggested.. When I looked for 10 mfd, the lower priced ones were in the range of $1.00 to $3.00, Which is fine with me..
So, I go looking for 20 mfd and 40 mfd and 80 mfd, Suddenly the price jumps from about $20.00 to about $50.00 in round numbers.. Am I selecting the wrong things, or do the prices jump that much after 10mfd ??
At Just Radios, for 20mfd thru 80 mfd its between $1.00 and $4.00.. Am I missing something ??

You're doing it wrong. Granted, i'm seeing some sizes are a bit pricey, but most of what i quickly searched was under $10 a cap.

I only consider buying from Mouser when the cap is an unusual value not available from the usual sources. Ordering from Just Radios is indeed very straightforward and their pricing is reasonable, why not just go with them?

So, what am I doing wrong ??
On digikey, it shows nothing for me..
And I would just be as glad to stick with one source..
The only problem with Just Radios is the time lead for shipping..

You know that you can use a 22mfd in place of 20mfd, right? If you search Mouser for "modern" values like 22, 33, 47, etc., you'll see that they are much cheaper than "old timey" values like 20.

An outfit like Mouser can sell (and thus orders) vast quantities of caps in the modern values, so they'll naturally be cheaper than little-used values.

I use Just Radios for Tubular Caps. They have the "Prewar" Cap values, i.e., .05 rather than .047, etc. Their prices are good.

I use Mouser for Electrolytics. They are fast shippers, good pricing, wide selection. They have radials as well as axial leads, and 105 C rated and long-life caps.

Buy your stocking order of Tubulars from Just Radios, and your project specific Electrolytics from Mouser.

Just shop carefully on eBay and you can avoid imported junk...

Those "high dollar" caps that Mouser sells are Genuine Cornell-Dublier capacitors. they are expensive but, they are made just like the ones that they made in the sixties & Seventies. when i restore a nice piece of equipment, i usually order these.
