Raccoon Sadness

I have a 1951 GE that has a perfect wood case, intact chassis and once pristine CRT. I boxed the 16KP4A CRT for storage in my basement during restoration. Sadly, my wife left the garage door open and in walked some raccoons that then ransacked my basement, including snapping off the next of the CRT.

I've had a search going on eBay for some time, but have had no hits. Is this TV a loss now?

That's a shame. They are mischevious little devils. I've got some living in a tree by my driveway. I'm totally convinced that if I ever leave my keys and wallet in the car they'd drive out to McDonalds and get something to eat with my debit card.

Gah, little bandit bastards. Raccoons may eat from trash cans, but a McGreasy's meal would probably kill them.

Nope, I leave fast-food out for the crows, and the raccoons come along and eat anything left. Every now and then, a seagull will come and take everything and chase off the crows in the process. I'd rather have crow-borne West Nile than raccoon-borne Rabies.

Sorry to here about your tube. I lost one about a month ago to on my restored 1953 Capehart it was hot and I turned the fan on high and it blew a picture off the wall and it broke the cone off the back and broke a very strong 21jp4 it made me sick. Hope you get lucky and find another.

Sorry to hear, but --it happens, years ago, I knocked the neck off of a 21AXP22 that was in a CTC-4 that I was working on. The set had been pushed back too far into a closet opening and I nailed it with a sliding door... tink! whooosh!

I dropped my Sony a few inches on to a concrete step as I was lowering it upon bringing it home. I was afraid I may have cracked the CRT neck, but fortunately it was okay.

Another one of my jokes doesn't quite make it. I was just making fun of the sheer badness of McGreasy's "food". I won't eat there, and I don't envy those who are stuck with working there.

I actually agree about Muckburgers (name borrowed from the C64 game "Killed Until Dead"). When I was still dating my new wife in Port Orchard, there was one Muckburgers at the top of a hill, and we'd occasionally chew the fatty tissue there. Well, a squirrel, easily 5-7 pounds of wobbly-blobbly came waddling up to my car and started begging. It was so pitiful. It jiggled so much from his fine diet I thought Bill Cosby would throw him in a bowl and do a Jell-O commercial.

I was the butt of jokes at work over a broken CRT. I had just let a freshly modded snd calibrated (by me) Conrac 14-incher slip out of my hands just 6 inches to the concrete floor. Then came a bowling-ball bump and that whoosh from Hell. Whenever I walked by certan folks, they'd start singing a cruelly re-worded version of "Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain".

Whoa, I can't imagine a squirrel that big. Who knew that even a squirrel would settle for a steady diet of that crap.

Man, such retarded co-workers. I won't run my XL-100 until I have touched up the problematic solder joints, otherwise I might eventually get, as someone else here said about a Zenith, "a thunderstorm in a box", followed by a big SNAP and the "whoosh from hell".

Kind of ironic what happened with my Sony. I had to bring it home on the bus, and I had to walk a fair distance to get to the nearest stop, which wasn't that far but seemed longer due to the weight. Then I had to walk a fair distance up a hill to get to the stop for my connecting bus. My arms were fairly rubberized by this time. Finally, I got to the door to my building, started lowering the set, and finally dropped it. There was still quite a bit of noise, even though it wasn't damaged.

I'll never forget the look on the driver's face when I got on the first bus to bring my 1982 RCA home. He didn't actually speak, but his face was saying something like, WTF? Haha.
