Cromwell TV
Just got this TV set, it is a Cromwell. Never heard of this name before. Maybe it was in in-house brand (?) It sure looks like an RCA-built chassis to me. Anyone ever seen one? There's a date stamped on the cabinet inside that is kind of blurry but seems to read 1950. Anyway, thought I would share.

I've seen that name TV listed in the guide books, but know nothing of it's origins. Likely a house brand for a large department store. 1949-50 sounds right. A lot of serious vintage TV collectors like those odd named sets.

The CRT is already rectangular, so it must be from 1950 or later.

I may have never heard of a Cromwell, but since its obviously rare, its sure worth restoring in my book!
Good score

Yes, a neat set. I love unusual, regional, and/or uncommon brand early TV sets and early color from brands you rarely see. Survivors are less common. And many such were made in tiny numbers. A great set.

Sams lists models 1010 and 1020 from 1950. That is the only listing for Cromwell.

IIRC, Hoffman did that, but I don't think it's a Hoffman. The tube location states RMA source code 60?. Can't see the last number. Could be a Tele-King or one of the less-known east coast makes.

Clarion, another East coast "bucket shop", had some serious inconsistencies at the end of its run. Note the mismatched control shafts and 14 inch CRT is a cabinet that could accommodate a larger tube. I worked for a shop that bought a truckload of Clarions at the closing. They were all different, being cobbled together to get them out the door. Most did not work, but all were made to work.
I agree with DJ, two 6J6 tubes in the tuner is unusual. |

I'd recognize that tube layout chart anywhere. It's almost assuredly a Tele-King build.
