Grundig satellit 800 no reception

I was given a satellit 800 recently that had not been used in years. The lcd display comes on but I am not getting reception on any band including FM. I am using the whip antenna and not even getting any movement of the meter.
Are there any commonly known problems that causes no reception? Could it just be dirty?
