Funny how Hitachi made everything for Sears and RCA at one point! My RCA CMR-300 VHS camcorder was made by Hitachi too, and the same camera was sold by Sears.

I guess I can start with looking for Hitachi service manuals then and narrow down to top-loaders from there.

EDIT: My Sears VHS seems to be very similar to (but not identical to) the Hitachi VT-11A, so that's a good start. Here's the VT-11A, via an eBay auction:

The buttons on the front are in different places and mine has front RCA jacks and no twin-lead connections on the back, but everything behind the front panel is the same. So that must mean that my Sears VCR is a successor/companion to the Hitachi VT-11A.
