Raspberry Pi 3 with Kodi on it, Ipod AV cable to get the AV out, and a Blonder Tongue modulator for the RF

Might be overkill for this use case, but they say the Raspberry Pi 5 has better composite quality than the Pi 3/4. https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=366652

Personally I would trust the composite output of any Raspberry Pi to do better than the converter boxes though.

Found the video... very cool. I ordered one to try. My cable box still had an RF output, and can be set to display 4x3, but it's only a matter of time until they make me replace it, and i want to be ready.
