Don in Seminole FL gave me a heads up on this a week ago knowing what I was looking for. The fact there is zero cutoff made me decide to pass. Looking at the pictures, the filament cup is fairly well blued from heat and use. The price is $450 with shipping so that was also an issue with passing on it. If it had good cutoff along with the good emissions, I might consider it but I'm thinking that's too much for a questionable tube. Am I making a good decision deciding to pass on it? The weak 16GP4 I already have tests similarly, no cutoff and decent emissions producing a dim, soft image.

The green pool table guys stuff is almost always overpriced. You could have 3 16GP4 donor sets for that price. Don't pay top dollar for something that isn't in top condition, and unless something is exceedingly rare (think pre-war, early color) don't pay top dollar unless you have to have it now...The saying good things come to those who wait is true. I've gotten great deals on most of my stuff by being patient and not jumping on top price stuff...Heck sometimes I've gotten overpriced stuff cheap simply by waiting until silence showed the seller reality.

Yeah, I'd hesitate to pay that much even for a NOS. 16GP4s are not rare.

I'm concerned about the untested CRT. Otherwise, looks to be in good, unrestored condition.

Regarding the 16GP4, no way at anywhere near that price. One will turn up. There is a chance they will rebuilt at some point...a chance.

Regarding the TV, good to see Harry Poster is still out there! He was buying/selling when I started collecting in the 80s.

Yeah he sells some neat stuff and is only an hour’s drive from me.

I basically agree with Bob. For a CTC-5 like that $350 is about the going rate. The 21AXP22 in those CTC-5 color sets is a metal cone and prone to going gassy.... Other CTC-5s are about the only somewhat common somewhat affordable source...All later all glass round color CRTs are electrically compatible but require a bit of work to mechanically adapt(there's threads here on that). The CTC-5 is the most Muntz-like chassis of the RCA roundys (heck, Muntz started building RCA color clones with the CTC-5)... Most RCA color chassis are significantly better than the CTC-5.

A fine point: the CTC-5 Super chassis is the cheapest, poorest performing and most common one, of which you speak. The rarer Deluxe chassis is closer to the CTC-7 and following chassis versions.

I have a 12LP4 if that helps. New Old Stock rebuilt RCA stock. Not aluminized round crt. Not sure what it fits. Maybe you could build an adapter or something.
Its been sitting in my utility room for the last 30 years or so. Had good emission last time I checked it.

The 12LP4 fits just about every late 40s to ~1951 12" TV. Dumont had a shorter neck tube and Zenith had a metal cone tube in that size, but a 12LP4 can be shoehorned in to those sets too. There's someone around Missouri or Kansas who was looking for a 12LP4.
Prior to the 16GP4 all US CRTs I'm aware of (20BP4, 16AP4, 12LP/KP/UP4 10BP/FP4 7DP4) used the same angle. Many chassis drove 2-3 of those types of different screen sizes unmodified. The 16GP4 is the oldest post war tube I know of that has an increased deflection angle to make the cabinet shallower.

Glad this 75 year old tube hadn't gone to air. It has a 54 degree deflection angle. So far as I know,it has never been re-juvenated.
