If it uses a bent gun, that is if the gun is mounted and slotted on an angle it needs an ion trap. Start with the magnet on the same side as the pins and move from socket toward yoke. If nothing, go 180 degrees and repeat. If you don't get anything at all, something is not biased right. A new CRT will show something with 9KV, even if the circuit calls for 13KV.
Does varying the brightness control affect either the grid or cathode voltage on the CRT? I would like to see them get to within 10 volts of each other at high brightness setting. The tube is probably cut off at 51 volts.
