Road trip finds.

I am on the road till Tuesday taking a little 4 day vacation up to Virginia City.

I stopped in Tonopah NV to eat, had a great breakfast, and then stopped at a little antique shop where I found a small 1951 Olympic 14" for $20

Not a great collectible to be sure but still kinda fun to find something for cheap while traveling.

Pictures when i get home

Picture

Well here it is, I'm not sure about the year yet, haven't looked it up in Sam's

The CRT had some sleeping sickness but came up great after 30 seconds at 8.0 volts and another 20 at 6.3

It's uhh...well... not the nicest set in the world, or the most stylish, and that is a faux finish that is flaking off so it will have to be veneered or painted if I want it to look good, but I was happy to find something in my travels.

Eric,

If you could find just 16 of these you could make an awesome vintage flavor 'monitor wall'! Looks like they'd stack well.

Eric,

Your set looks just like this Crosley, that just came in for repairs.

It sure does!
the Crosley looks like it might have a slightly bigger tube than 14"?

I took this one apart to see what's what, kinda neat, the whole cabinet lifts off leaving the set breadboarded together on just the bottom board

Olympic look-a-likes

Eric:
I thought that Olympic looked kinda familiar. This is a Hoffman I found a couple of years ago. The speaker location is different and matches the Crosley. Maybe this will start a new collecting fad: see how many different brand names we can find on the same set.

Chuck,

Your statement there made me laugh. I got this mental image like you sometimes hear of a letter that was mailed in 1920 and just got delivered to it's recipient.

BTW, nice avatar. Is that the metal shell 15" early tube?

Yes the picture is the early tube, from a 1950 RCA Color Television How it works booklet.
