seems i had a dead 5U4GB and never knew it.

So, this weekend's work proved that the 21fp4c does indeed work, with the added benefit of a cool radioactive blue glow at the join line where it was rebuilt, only complication was attaching the mounting bracket for the yoke/ pincushion assembly, I have yet to work out how to deal with lack of centering, as it was originally done with the focus PM, I will have to see what I have in my junk pile from projection tubes.

As for the bad 5u4gb, must have been bad from the start, new one will take a while to get here, is it safe to keep running on 1? grab one from another set?

There is still a bunch of minor suff to do, but it all seems to be working, and I don't think I will be able to get rid of ALL the audio buzz as long as I am using a cable box as source.

Sharply-defined blue glowing spots are from stray electron bombardment and not a problem, as opposed to diffuse glow throughout the gun area (indicating gas).

I really did not think it was much of a problem, since it seemed to be working OK, I just find it weirdly fascinating as to why it's only glowing near the new section of neck, right at the weld point, and am rather curious about it, if anything else!

Just cant get clear sound on the set (buzz) , I was able to get a good picture by boosting gain, but the sound is not clear, not sure if this is because the sound IF coils are still old and have problems, 2 of the video ones were replaced for some reason, or video IF is still wacky, ( intercarrier set ), but the sound just won't clean up completely, good video, however.
So gonna try tuner fed-video and direct audio. :O
