ctc-5 again

i am wondering if i have a missing parabola wave correction or something like that .. is missing,i have a ctc-5 manual but it is for the de;ux model that uses x-y demod,so the scan and convergence cicuits are the same..is your sams for the color difference model? if so i would love to see what the chroma curcuit looks like as i got problems there too..
i guess i am going to pull the chassis back out and hook it up to the 21fj22 i had sitting on the floor..
but something is telling me since the blue gun is on top that it needs some sort of waveform correction..i just hope it is not the tube..

What a relief!

Terry,
I was following your problem and the various posted replies like some old cliff-hanger serial. Stay tuned...what will he try next? Glad it was just a quick switcheroo on the convergence coil and not the picture tube.

ctc-5

I guess i will join the " I have no color " club ..like eric H,odd thing,if i inject bars in place of tuner i get color.. but does not look right, color killer does not work corectly,i suspect that crystal diode in the killer circuit..if there is one in this chassis...i would like to pull the chassis again and check to see is the osc is running.. i would us a scope or better yet a freq counter, but i am working with an incorrect manual..anyone have a copy of this set i can buy?
21CS7815
this is the color difference model,or even a pic of just the chroma process circuit would help..
at lease i now have good convergence..I should have asked more questions from the seller before i bought this thing..
all controls in front were rusty..i was able to get all new old stock ones from moyer..i think i cleaned him out..
thanks
terry

I must say....you TV guys are...uh.......nuts? Do you know how many audio goodies you can buy with that kind of money. Heck, you can buy a whole new tv for 200 bucks.....and you can hook a DVD player to it. I am begging you, please come out of the dark ages.

We're nuts??

We aren't paying hundreds of dollars for "magnetically aligned, super cooled, oxygenated, gold plated" power cords, or speaker wire that you could use to start a 747 engine and the like.

Nuts. eh?

Yesterday, I was in a house, with another tech, on a service call, for a sony HDTV projector unit. This guys house needed some serious repair, like the garage door was seriously in need of repair, and his car was an old nissan pulsar, probably 15 years old, BUT, he had AT LEAST $20,000 in his HT system including probably 5k in speakers alone, while the house, and car was in disrepair. Now, THAT is nuts!!

Many of the items I acquire are FREE, or near it. I would NEVER pay $100. per foot for MY speaker cables, or such.16 gauge cord, or 14 for higher power systems over 150wattts/ch, works fine!

As for coming out of the dark ages, what about spending $1000.00 for a single end 2a3 tube amp with LESS than 5 watts of power, when a NICE HT receiver 100+ watts /ch,x6, can be had for under $1000.00?

To each his own.

ctc-5 problems

well with all the problems with this set i am about to give up and put it on e-bay..this is the first set i have had rotton luck with,my ct-100 went well,as did my ctc-7..
i guess trying to work on this outside the cabinet sucks..and working on odd problems without the correct manual..
why did RCA make 2 different chassis's? odd it could not have been that much more expensive to leave it as a x-y demod set..
well..i guess one more try and will inject a signal stage by stage.
i have spent 2 entire days and eves this week on this thing..
GEE.. maybe I'll send the chassis out and get chromed like the audio guys do..~~~
terry..

Why two chassis?

Terry,
Although your question may be retorical.....
RCA was very good at marketing tv sets. Your "Special" series chassis was strickly aimed at getting the price of a color set below $500. That was still a huge sum in 1956. RCA had to cut some corners to get there. Hence the two chassis. They also figured when consumers walked in and saw that bare bones box of a cabinet, color set or not, the dealer would try and move them up to a fancier model. Having two chassis also allowed the dealer to talk up the technical advantage of the "better chassis" (more expensive) to a public very leery of color television. I believe RCA still lost money on every color set they sold until the mid 1960's.
