Photos of the DuMont
The DuMont arrived, and well, it is pretty scruffy. CRT had no emission, but I ran the filament voltage up on the Belron, and gave it one brief shot with the rejuvenation setting, and now it has OK emission. Only a few seconds of life test (10 seconds is nominal). So it would likely give a viewable picture, but not much life left. It appears to be an original 12JP4, though it is unmarked. I cleaned the black gunk from the face of the CRT. The rubber pad under the CRT mounting strap had melted and then turned rock hard. Chassis is a bit rusty. Underneath it appears to have had some work done over the years. Cabinet is rough, with no finish to speak of on the outside, and several veneer chips and assorted scratches. Brought it up slowly on the variac, just for fun. AM radio works (!), TV does nothing. TV AC interlock is damaged, had to clip lead the AC power. Phonograph does not operate.
If our esteemed member Mr. Cahill can arrange to come and pick it up in a timely manner, I am going to let it go live with him. I already have too much stuff!
