In 1943 I strongly suspect that such devices were largely a pipe-dream in a glossy magazine ad in such as NG, stating that when Victory was achieved, and our troops came home the newly-developed noise-immune FM radio system would be a reality in everyone's homes, and that radio-television would be something else to look forward to seeing in the stores...
