Desperately need a deflection yoke for a 1961 Magnavox 27" b/w tv. Chassis is 36-20-11 and the tube is 27ZP4. Anyone know of a cross reference number book that might offer other part numbers???

There's the Thordarson cross reference guide (I have one from the early eighties),
but you do need the Magnavox part number for the yoke, and then you must find the Thordarson part, which may be more or less easy. Others may have better ideas. Good luck (and welcome to AudioKarma, you should enjoy this forum)! Last edited by electroking; 04-02-2009 at 07:22 PM. Reason: corrected spelling |

Hmmm...I found a Sams for '36 series' sets, published in '62. #591-2. I pulled it but it only covers 19" & 23" versions. I can't seem to find anything else in Sams with those numbers.
I have a Stancor book which is a few years older than this set, so it wouldn't be covered. Nice thing about it is they go by model number instead of part number. Maybe someone with a newer Stancor book could be of assistance? And, yes, welcome!

Sorry I don't have any yokes, but, WOW! I had no idea they were still making 27" sets that late (before the 80's, of course).
Two thoughts that come to mind: You may have to look through older inventories, since most 27'" b/w were made right after the 27" CRTs came out, about 1955. It quickly became evident that few people will willing to put up that much money for a b/w, and soon the market was dominated by 21" sets and a few 24" sets. I also wonder if a yoke designed for a 24" set (or even a 21") may work with your 27". Looking through old tube manuals, it seems as through CRT manufacturers would introduce new tubes in groups. often bringing out, at the same time, 21", 24" and 27" CRTs with only the envelope different - same base, gun, design voltages and deflection angles - only the size different. They would also offer versions with and without aluminum backing, with and without tinted face plate, also electronically alike. Good luck on your resto effort, I'd love to see it working! |
