A cool experiment I thought of to do with colour wheels

G'day all.

I thought of something that would be cool to try out on my PC with a colour wheel after looking at this page http://www.sptv.demon.co.uk/cbscolor/ . I was thinking of converting a video to 20 frames/sec, convert every individual frame to their 3 colour channels Red, Green, Blue and in a video editing suite place each 3 primary colour frames one after the other and saving the video as a 60 frames/sec video and playing it back with a cellophane colour wheel with adjustable speed electric motor. I'm gonna give it a crack and see if I can get a decent 20 frames/sec colour picture from it, some of you would already know if this experiment will work successfully or not so feel free to give technical opinions, guidences or doubts etc... I would need to know suitable motor speeds as well.

This will definitely work. If you do it at 20 frames per second you'll need a wheel with either 3 color segmants or 6. With 3 the wheel has to spin at 1200 RPM, but with 6 just 600. You will be stunned with how good the color is. For color filters try Roscolux lighting gel #25 orange-red, #76 blue-green and #90 dark green.
You can tape the filters to a clear piece of plastic from a poster frame.

G'day Cliff. Thanks for the info, glad to know this experiment will work and I will get the materials together soon. The Roscolux gel filters on the other hand, I'm not sure where to get them in Australia. Well I know there's some assorted Roscolux filters going on Ebay over here but out of all the listed filter colours only #76 is in one of the packs. So for the time being I'll just experiment with cellophane as I've been very successful getting a colour picture from a 70s vidicon camera with taking 3 stills using red, green and blue cellophane the pic can be seen on Labguysworld VTR site on this page http://www.labguysworld.com/ColrQkCm.htm . Anyhow looking forward to getting this experiment together .

Hello, I had seen the color pics on Labguy's site before but didn't realize they were your's. That is very good color!!! Your cellophane will work fine.
