Nothing went together better than color tv and holiday specials

For those of us old enough to remember it was a joy to see anything in color, but nothing became more special than having a color tv during the holiday season. Just about all the major tv stars had some kind of holiday special and most were in color. Even Cbs threw in a special or two including Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

I Agree!

Actually, "Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer" was originally telecast in color on NBC during the 1964 Christmas season. It did not move to CBS until years later.

My favorite Christmas season color special was the "Red Skelton Christmas Special". It was broadcast in color on CBS during the 1963 Christmas season, 2 years before CBS started colorcasting regular television shows. It was a rerun from the 1950s' when CBS recorded the Red Skelton Show in color. By 1960, CBS had all but abandoned color programming except for an occasional color special, ie., The Wizard of Oz, etc.

Rudolph in HD?

People are taking this whole HD thing too far. CBS broadcast Rudolph in HD last night. It didn't look any better than it has the past 46 years. Most people still cant see the difference between something broadcast in digital vs something that is in actual HD.

I'll keep watch the old shows on my old color sets.

Every year I dust off the ABC Hollywood Palace Christmas shows with Bing Crosby and Perry Como. Very nostalgic.

It's too bad they didn't save any of the old color video tapes of people like Dinah Shore and Perry Como shows from the 50's although I have seen bits and pieces of Dinah Shore in color but not Perry Como

Rudolph the Red Nosed Raindeer would have been pointless without color, and then there is Charlie Brown Christmas, my favorite and did they ever make the Peanuts black and white?
I have my Tv trays out all ready for the holiday NON DIGITAL TV selections, but oh them nasty tv dinners LOL but I prefer the Turkey Gravey now, I even throw on some Bing Christmas I even have a Jim Neighbors record he looks like Gomer Pyle. but man I think Bing was old when I was a kid? at least he seemed old, but now he seems somewhat young I think.

I think I only got to see the "Rudolph" show maybe once or 2X when I was a kid, IIRC, they showed it on the Sunday Night our church had their big Little Kiddies' Christmas shindig...And I DID NOT have the option of not going, unless I was so sick I wished I could die...I feigned a Sore Throat one time, & Mama said I'd have to go to bed...NO TV...I made a MIRACULOUS recovery...Same old dumb stuff every year...Plus, we had to go to Sunday School & Church, then back to the church at 4.30 for the Christmas Shindig, & it wasn't over til 8 or so...And I was of the age that "Church" meant shirt 'n' tie, scratchy wool pants, suit jacket, the whole 9 yards...

ugh Sandy you brought up that stuff, I always got to open a present on Christmas eve, remember those big yellow Tonka dump trucks? I dreamed about having them things for 2 years and I wanted one, I finally got it on Christmas eve, as soon as the wheels hit the floor, "come on we have to go to candlelight Service at church" I was like WTF? lol
All I could think of was the big yellow truck as I dripped candle wax on the church floor under the pew, but I was creative enough to make certain wax figures of that long winded ole preacher who loved to hear himself save the world and evrytime he would blow I would poke his wax figure with the half pencil. In fact I am goin to call mom right now and get after her about her teasing me with that truck through that whole long boring service, I still stay away from that church.
