Some collectors get annoyed by shows like American Pickers, but I look at it this way. If the shows encourage people to save old items rather than pitch them into the garbage, that means more items for me to find some day.
If the owners think their humdrum items are worth a fortune, no problem. The market will educate them soon enough without my help. Eventually, they will learn that their $50 TV won't sell with a $5,000 pricetag, but that other owners do manage to sell the same thing at $50.
