Zenith I was eyeing
SO im thinkin bout picking this up. Price was on the higher side but hes flexible. I dont know much bout the older models though really. THe switch assembly on the left was out but siting in the bac of the cabinet. All the tubes were there, the cabinet was in pretty good shape. I dont know if the switch panel was in the right side tho it was hard to see and i couldnt take it down. Thoughts as to what I should look for if i decide to buy it? i know i cant ask bout price here but what might be reasonable? It seemed complete and in decent shape

this a 10s567 from the 1940=41 model year.pretty good performers and not bad looking units either!i have one that plays well and i restored the cabinet.this set has a "photo finish" and it can be touched up but not replaced.a good price on a radio like this would be around 50-100 dollars.i paid 40 dollars for mine at a swap meet.i recapped and had to strip and restore cabinet.the "photo finish" was replicated with a brush and much time.it looks really nice and has been playing nonstop for 2 months.in my opinion,very good quality zenith radio

If it has rubber wiring, and I think it does, plan on replacing some, most, or all of it. Otherwise they are great sets. Rubber wire is a big problem when manufacturers first switched to it in about 1940.

If it has the original 6X5G's in it do not use them even if they check out good. These tubes are notorious for shorting out and taking out the transformer with it. There is some rubber wiring to get rid of but lots of room under that chassis. I have this model also that I need to re-assemble but It's a good performer.

mine has no rubber wiring and is fused.the 6x5 is a bad,bad tube!use a 6x5gt in its place and by all means,put a fuse in it!

Good to know, guy wants just over twice the high number u gave sampson...ill head back next week, see if he will come down, from what i can tell its all original...and crazy to how the chassis is siting on few springs, that normal?

The cabinet looks kinda too shiny-make sure they didn't lay a coat of poly on it to make it "prettier". I haven't worked on any '41 Zeniths, but I've heard they are the worst for rubber wiring. I did have to rewire a '40 Zenith, but only about half of that wire was rubber. Personally, at that asking price, I would pass, as these sets aren't rare and seem to be immune to the "Zenith Fever" that effects the pricing of most Zenith sets. I also like the styling and features of the earlier Zeniths as well. Something just happened around 1940 that just turns me off on those later sets.

it was "prettied up" to sell.some folks dont care for the 40s zeniths.i like them all.i have several zenith radios and i like my 12s370 best and my 7s363 next.i have a 6s152,10s669,and a 8hao1.the late 30s were the nicest looking cabinets but the early 40s sets have a niche to them.watch out for the dreaded photo finish!hate it.hard to duplicate.that set is worth no more than 75.00 tops.good luck and as long as its a zenith,its worth saving
