Hi forum, I thought I would post a bit of history about myself and welcome any other old timers who love CRT television. Personally, I think HDTV sucks.
When I was in 7th grade I new what I wanted to do with my job choice and that was to go into tv and radio servicing. My senior year of high school I started a 2 year vocational schooling for "service electronics". Which helped me get the start into the wonderful world of tv and radio servicing. There was a small tv sales and service shop that I would frequently go and watch Star Trek in their showroom floor. After awhile they got tired of my loitering and asked me if I would like a job as a "gopher". Go on pickup's and deliveries for repair. That was in 1975, the year the first betamax came out, and I was a junior in high school. I worked at that store known as J&L TV in Boulder, CO for 10 years, working my way up from a "gopher" all the way to a bench tech. Unfortunately the industry was already on its way to begin dying out. We were a authorized dealer for Zenith, RCA, and Sony. A small shop of just 5 employees. I bought a Sony KV2648R wholesale that lasted me until January of this year. My neighbor gave me his Grandmothers 1959 RCA CTC 9 chassis that I put a CRT in and was working until 2007 when a verticle problem started. Thanks to Ed Reitan's site I was able to identify the model as the Atherton (what a name for a tv). That and a few other items are my projects I hope to start, but 7 years of doing nothing with. I joined yesterday to get encouragement and help as I hope once again to strart on this wonderful project. Sorry for the long epistle, but I thought some would enjoy the read.
