Magnavox Collaro Tonearm wiring?

I know this is a TV forum,
but thought someone might be able to help me out...
I finally got a new old stock EV26 cartridge with both LP and 78 needles for my series 300 console.
Found out the original wiring under the tone arm was tampered with, and is falling apart,
so I want to change the two wires from the cartridge to where they are soldered underneath.
Looks like coaxial or shielded type wire? I don't know the term.
But each wire is wrapped on the outside with wire and has to be spliced, which doesn't seem possible to do, at least with the old wires.
Anyone know what type of wire I should use to replace it with, it's very thin.
Thanks!
