I'm glad the set made it home safe. Do you have a tube tester? If not, you will need one. Change the 1V2 focus rectifier tube (it's a little tube that is by the high voltage part of the tv which is that big metal box on the right side of the chassis.) This tube sticks out sideways from there. The focus control is a plastic stick at the back of the chassis that is below it. Slide that in and out for focus. It has a locking screw that holds it in place. The lack of color is most likely a tube in the color section of the chassis that is bad. I've had several of these sets in the past, I wish I were closer to you so I could help you work on it. And please follow snelsons advise on not turning knobs unless you know what they do. The greyscale or black and white part of the picture looks ok for now so don't turn the color drive controls on the back, they are the controls with a red, green and blue shaft. The best place to start on this one is checking all the tubes, the picture tube looks ok to me, it's bright enough that it will produce a nice picture once the chassis is right.

I think you're right, Eric. I sometimes use the Google translator to correspond with a friend in Spanish. There are times when we have to cover a subject more than once due to the bad grammar from the translator.

Or he's pulling a "Borat" on all of us with the Old Empire stereotype of "English" as used by the lower castes. Either way, his interest in restoring the Magnavox seems genuine since he has posted a pic of it in operation. I hope his project goes well.

Sanjarali,

Been reading up on this. You've got a nice looking old Magnavox there.

It might be a good idea to find someone there in Detroit that has a tube tester and check the color tubes. Hopefully, the person with a tester can come to you. Dont take all the tubes out at one time. Remove one tube at a time, test it, and put it back. You might find that this is all that is wrong.

Did you try adjusting the 'fine tuning' control there on the channel selector to see if the color might happen to come on? Set the tint at the midway point, and the same for the color control. You might be surprised.

You havent turned any controls on the back of the set, yet, have you?

Best of luck getting this old set going. I have a cousin that had a TV very much like yours that was never worked on until 1995, and the repair was a single tube.

I worked on quite a few of these too, I also unfortunately removed some sets' insides so the grand furniture could be re-purposed by their owner.

As an example of grand glorious color status TV from 60's, its THE BEST. The sound on these was excellent.

BUT Please give us a model number (see long tag on back upper right of cabinet) and the numbers from the little white tag on the rear of chassis. We all can really help once I know if its a T904 or T919 or T920, I'll send you a schematic and chapter from my Stan Prentiss book on how to set these up.

They differ little from RCA in many respects. What say Sanjarali?

Perhaps this is being taken a little too far. We should stick to the topic of the vintage Magnavox that he seems to be very proud of. That's why we're here... remember?

Wow... looking better!

It looks like the convergence needs touching up. The verticle is lacking some at the bottom... probably a cap or electrolytic would fix that.
