Mystery 1940s RCA TV lid?
Came by this top lid for some '40s RCA and for the life of me I can't think of what it fits. Anybody know? I took a pic of it with my 8TS30 in the background to illustrate the size of it. Much larger than any of the ones I'm used to seeing....

8-T-243, the curve goes to the rear.

Scratch that, too narrow, perhaps one of the other 8-T models?

Definitely a KCS28 chassis, probably an 8T241, 242, or 243 Sams 74, folder 8
Edit: Ixnay - the 6K6 behind the power tranny isn't on the KCS28, maybe KCS27?

So the 2 screw holes on the curved portion are to attached the lid to the cabinet back? Perhaps the curve is to the front and a magnifier attaches there. I'm sure someone will come up w/a photo of the lid attached to a cabinet.

Part of me wants to just let the discussion go on but...I can tell you exactly what it came off of! 8-T-243.

Bryan, I'm guessing you know this for a fact because he got it from you?
![]() The 243 was my first guess but it looked too narrow based on pictures I found online, however when I took pictures of mine they look more narrow so it must just be the camera perspective It's 17 inches wide exactly by the way, I was too lazy to remove it and compare the tube chart... The 8-T-243, a set that actually looks better from the back than the front.

Well, it came *through* Bryan, anyway
![]() DavGoodlin has an 8T241 missing the top, and Bryan brought him this one but it was too big. I gave him an 8TS30 top I picked up at ETF that again wasn't a perfect match, but closer in size, so Dave asked me if I could use the one Bryan gave him. Figured I'd come across someone that needed one at some point. So, does anyone need this one?

Yep, I parted that set out after getting no takers for the whole thing after a couple years. The lid was the last thing left. Sooner or later, somewhere, somebody will need it!

I have one but it looks better sitting on it's face with the lid off and just watching the tubes glow; or from behind you can pretend that you have a 40s set that's "collectable."
Just kidding; they aren't that bad, but they are very plain Jane. I don't think they are a big deal among the TV elite. Funny how a different wrapper around more or less the same chassis can make all the turn over potential in the world. I'm glad that later stuff is finally getting worthy recognition. I like 50s sets best myself. Always have! They are the most interesting and practical for service and viewing. Hey, I just remembered that it seems like my RCA lid doesn't have the tube diagram. I'll have to move a few radios off the top and see. That would be a plus! I thought perhaps it (diagram) was on the HV cage or the back cover which I am missing. My set will be complete once I have these two items. She was a little rough coming in the door several years ago. Missing knobs and very dirty. I almost knecked that 10BP4 bringing it home. The crt mounts are a joke and that jug was just rolling around in there more or less. It hadn't fallen when we loaded it so that something looked wrong. I didn't know anything about the way those old RCAs are put together. I noticed it after the trip at some point.
