It has gotten worse as time progressed. 5200 was my first and immediately after, i got a 7800 and eventually a 2600. Problem with the 2600 is the simpler graphics versus more detail and variation in the later models. The 2600 couldn't come close to the arcades so thats where the colecovision, intellivision and 5200 came in. They were designed to look like arcade. Best example is pac man on the 2600. Just plain pathetic. Doesnt look or even sound like the arcade but the 5200 did a better job with pac man. The pause button was a nice feature to if you needed to stop in the middle of a game for a bit. I find that almost every system has its shining point and will never be replaced by anything else. Im actually picking up a colecovision lot for $100 in a couple weeks.
