Looking at the cover from the inside, though, the plastic tabs appear to be glued to the main cabinet.
It actually looks like these were heat welded together as if they used a soldering iron to actually melt one piece into the other. If so, you might need a very steady hand, a magnified shop light, and some fine Dremel tool bits to grind it free.
