I saw it starting int he late 2000's. You started seeing people demand to game on a CRT due to the enhanced RGB modes as opposed to composite, then there's the competitive arcade community who in my opinion were the first to start paying hundreds for commercial refurbished PVM's and later on as the remaining units began phaseout everyone started going for them but the pricepoint was already set in the high hundreds. Before that everyone was using the then still really common and cheap Commodore 1701/1702.
I still keep a hoard of typically generic or unimpressive CRT sets but not specifically for reselling. You see a small color set now, don't expect to see them in another decade. I say find a nook you can't easily access but kept dry and cram it as full as you can.
