It's already put back together, and after watching it for a few hours last night, the purple vertical line is more distracting than the new issues, so I think I'll leave it as is. Like you said it's a crapshoot anyway. And if the vertical driver is running twice as hard to compensate, it's probably not a permanent solution, so out to the garage she goes. It'll make a good set for occasional use out there. Thanks again for helping me fix an unfixable set!
