DTV Question
Recently I had to rescan to receive an OTA DTV station (WSYX / Columbus, OH). One of my TVs would not pick up the change on the rescan, and the only way I can tune it in is by entering the actual RF channel numbers. If I enter the "advertised" channel number (after having rescanned), it won't tune in.
Is there anything the broadcaster could be doing differently that would cause this? Are some tuners/receivers more "fussy" about particulars of the broadcast signal? |

Hmmm.... I seem to recall some problem early on where the PSIP (digital info in the broadcast) could tell the receiver a wrong RF channel due to mistaken programming. I think this was supposed to be fixed by not broadcasting the data and receivers ignoring it if it is there. This is a very vague memory and I may have it all wrong.
Can you check what RF channel your errant device is tuning to after the rescan? This might indicate erroneous info in the broadcast. I think you should contact the station and say what particular device is doing this, and, if you can, tell them what RF channel it's tuning to after rescan. This will help find if it's a wrong data point in their stream. |

One thing that has worked for me in the past is to do a scan with the antenna unplugged to “clear out” old data, then reconnect the antenna and do a second scan. YMMV.

This is something I've had to do with some of my TV's when I was still using OTA. The TV was storing BOTH virtual channel numbers.

I have rabbits ears as an antenna source and if a channel is sometimes weak I’ll lose it in a rescan. Not knowing what your using as an antenna for a source put you might reposition the antenna slightly and do another rescan. I lost my PBS channel for about 2 months but I tried a rescan and tweaked my rabbits ears slightly and now I got my PBS channels back. Certainly worth investigating.
