I put polarized plugs on all my hot chassis sets. my Hallicrafters S-38 was wacky how it was wired, the switch turned the neutral on and off when it was plugged in correctly, it does have isolation grommets, but who trust those after 70 years

Switching the neutral rather than the hot was a very common thing on series string hot chassis sets . With the switch usually mounted to the back of the volume control , it was found that not running the hot lead through the back of the volume control resulted in less AC hum being picked up by the volume control .
