Try a heat gun and quickly wipe the excess wax off. They often look as new underneath that old dirty wax.

Nice work.
The 630, early Dumonts, 50s color sets, and Philco sets before the late 50s are among the most laborious sets to recap.

oddly enough, the 418P25496MB3 cap (.25uf 600v) is damn HUGE compared to all the other new ones.

Funny how the schematics in both the RCA630TS service manual and the Riders for the Fada 895,are MUCH easier to follow than the SAMs are of the time

i just had a major WTF moment when putting in the 2nd .25 cap.
![]() https://imgur.com/XVO6xyK I noticed that there was a resistor going to nowhere, as is it was never hooked up. it has one end where it should, but one just hanging. checking all the schematics, it seems that this is NOT right :O https://imgur.com/cVDDVHb SAMS https://imgur.com/lJV5DsN FADA Is this a mistake from the original maker? fix or leave as is? Confusing...

I don't know, but I suspect if you try it, it will work, but the picture control setting will have to be a little different. If it does work, I would connect it permanently.

The contrast circuit is a manual rf/if gain control.

I'd leave that resistor as original(unconnected) for the time being, at least until you have the set operational. The 680k resistor's loose end is shown being tied to the 275v B+ in the Riders schematic, but that line is also being fed a bias voltage from the picture(contrast control) circuit. One has to assume it originally worked "as is". At some later point you can always try connecting it to B+, just to see how it affects the picture and sound.

There in lies the catch...
I don't know if the tuner and IF will ever work on this, due to the extreme age & damaged IF coil which I fixed as best I could, even if the coil works, the tuning for it is lost due to it being taken apart and fixed, and the tuning slug broken/glued. So, options are... put coil in and try to eyeball it while leaving all the other coils untouched hoping they are still in tune and can get lucky with getting the broken one tuned. Find an old generation sweep marker generator someplace with the right ranges for this set that they DON'T WANT a king's random for and attempt my first alignment. Or, skip the tuner/IF completely and do direct A/V input.

Just for fun I looked up the RCA part number for the 630's 1st video IF coil and crossed it to a Meissner 17-1001. One of which is listed on ebay. Electrical specs look like a match. I'm not sure about the mounting, but there's a good chance it'll fit? Maybe you can message the seller and he'd be kind enough to measure the mounting bolt spacing. I agree your old one may work, but having this as a backup may let you sleep better at night.
