Philco 4206S / 7L40AJ chassis

So here's a new one on me. I haven't received my Sam's for this set yet and i think I've heard of this before, but i don't recall ever seeing this mod before? Any ideas? Obviously the set will get a full recap... especially seeing one exploded last time the prior owner tried to use it

I have seen the plate coil on Motos, Pannys & a few others.
They were OEM. I would just leave it be.

If I had to guess, I'd say for preventing high frequency RF oscillation/interference.

Thanks. Still waiting for my Sams. I swear I'd seen it years ago but couldn't remember if it was factory, or a field bandaid repair
