Well, I went to DigiBeta school. on the DVW-A500 machine but that was 20 years ago. I'd start by cleaning the top of the drum. If that doesn't do it, it likely needs replacing. Check for gunk (oxide) in the lower guide edge of the drum. With the high bit rates of these, cleanliness is important.
