Speaking of foot warmers.... I worked for an electronic manufacturer in the 1980s which did not allow individual heaters to keep personnel warm. Instead, the secretaries got us to place Tektronix 545 tube oscilloscopes in the cutouts of their desks. It kept them warm all winter. However, the company still had the oscilloscopes (heaters) re-calibrated on the normal schedule. Finally, in the late 1980s, they offered these oscilloscopes to the technical staff. I managed to snag a calibrated 547 with 1A1 and 1A7 plug-ins. Still have it.
