CRT Rebuilding - ColorVac in Germany

Hi to all,

A video very recently appeared on YouTube showing the rebuild of a Trinitron large screen CRT by a German company named ColorVac. see link below.
Tube is a 21" Trinitron used in a semi-professional CVM-2150E monitor (625 PAL)

Apparently they have NOS Trinitron gun assemblies & the rebuild gear to process tubes.

Info was posted on UK-VRR forum by Mr Hoover (Thanks!).

Interesting. I wonder if they can do deltagun and monochrome and what their prices are. Shipping would probably be big bucks from the US though.

Hi to all,
Hi @Electronic M,

if ColorVac has NOS B&W and delta guns, they probably could rebuild.

The ETF has all types of spare guns ex-Hawkeye and RACS.
ETF has the only B&W phosphor re-screening machine in existence.

Color CRT re-screening is totally impossible (of course).

USA/Eu shipping cost would be proportional to jug size.
Probably reasonable for 5/9/12" bulbs, then $$.

Hi to all,

further on the topic, interesting paragraph - edited (cathode manufacturing):

"The TVs are currently undergoing an extensive restoration process which shall ensure the work a new usable life expectancy of at least 20 years. Divided into three batches, the monitors are removed from the work and picked up by the CRT-Lab Colorvac, which Christian Draheim runs and given a general overhaul and if necessary, fitted with new tubes. To make this final step possible, Saueracker and Draheim have specially developed a new technology for manufacturing cathodes after the end of their industrial production."

I just discovered this about 10 mins ago and was about to post it to here and the FB vintage tv collectors forum. I hope ETF and Colorvac can collaborate!

I'm trying to figure out what happened to VideoDisplay, a re-builder in Atlanta. That was quite an operation if you've ever been there. What happened to the equipment? The last time I talked to one of their guys (Bob Liss), they were doing tubes mostly for the government.

I think there was a thread here in the last decade or so about them closing and selling out their CRT inventory. It might have some more info if you track it down.

It really wasn't the inventory I was looking for. I was hoping one of the guys there took home the equipment and started doing tubes out of his garage! Particularly the old B&W tubes.
As I recall from my one visit to VideoDisplay, that was a pretty nasty place. The place had a metallic smell and was very dirty. Probably a couple of OSHA violations there too!

Hi to all,

A new ColorVac video appeared recently on YouTube.
duration 10 min, with english soundtrack & subtitles.

Tube being re-gunned is a delta-gun A63-11X/25AXP22, one of the first rectangular color tubes in Europe. Produced in 1967 for the introduction of PAL color broadcasting in Germany. England and France also started in the fall of 67.
TV is a NordMende Spectra-Color.

If they can do the roundy deltagun sets (which have bigger guns) I can see them getting a lot of business from the US.
