Tubes used in TVs?
What tubes do you guys look for to use in early tube sets? Any rare ones?

I should also point out, my question isn't so I can reap any possible financial gain. So, if you can answer the question, fire away.

Aside from picture tubes, most of them are pretty common. There are a few oddities that show up in early bw sets. I guess 6SN7's and 12AX7's are getting kinda expensive. When you get into 60s color sets there are some sweep tubes that are real expensive these days.

For the most part, it's hard to give away TV tubes at a typical swap meet. Millions are still in circulation and many have no use outside the dinky circle of TV collectors.
There are rare exceptions, but you're not likely to find them in the case where, "Grandpa retired from the radio/tv business and left behind a basement full of tubes." If you do stumble across Grandpa's basement, I'd be tempted to rescue them because they aren't being made any more. But only if I had ample storage space and didn't expect to make any money selling them for another few decades ![]() Phil Nelson |

Hi.,
Any TV Sweep tube used in CB Radio and Amateur Radio Linear Amplifiers tends to be high demand and expensive. Those Sweep tubes are expensive and darned hard to find since all of them are NOS and in limited supply. |

Back when sweep tubes were common, nobody cared, but now, CB'ers have pretty much depleted any large supplies of NOS sweep tubes, especially the 6LF6.
