Nice set, and I've never had one of the open-face consoles like this one. It's the cheapie cabinet; chassis 242. 1951 model (early). The same chassis came in more deluxe cabinets with a 17" rectangular tube, and according to the brochure, a 24" round. Seller is also WAY WAY off on his facts. Kaye-Halbert never had a plant in Chicago. And to my knowledge, no distributor relations there either. That set was made at their second factory at 3555 Hayden Ave. in Culver City, CA.
If I were closer, I'd go for this one!!!! Charles

What CRT does this set use? It looks like a 12" set from the front, from the back it looks like a metal cone... 16GP4? The set's a stones toss from me, might go have a looksee...

It's either a 16AP4, or it could also be a DuMont glass 15" tube. Those 15's are very rare, so it's probably a 16AP4. I'd have to look at the manual, but I don't think KH ever used a 16G.

I just called the seller, and yes, that's his real name: Lou Oates.
He said I could come by Saturday to look at the TV, but he wants me to bid on it first. So, I guess it's gonna cost me a buck to find out what CRT the set uses!

Well, I went & had a quick looksee Saturday afternoon...
Nice older couple, wife said it belonged to her parents. Best guess, I would have to say that the CRT is a 16GP4, it's just too short (less thn 18") to be anything else. Schematic inside TV calls for a 16RP4, or equivalent. CRT has the plastic cone around it, but I can make out "Kaye Halbert" in big red letters on the cone. CRT is bad, as there is a crack at the 9 o'clock position. Very odd-sized bezel, as the seller is right, it only exposes 13.5" of the screen. I can just barely make out the flyback under the chassis, and it looks OK, but can't be sure. No 1B3, looks like a voltage doubler under there, as there are 2 small rectifier tubes that look like the ones the CTC series use for focus. The cabinet has a gouge in it on the left side, and can be seen in seller's photo, and the finish is flaking on both sides, down low. Sorry, but I forgot to get model numbers... If anyone is interested in this set, go ahead & bid. You'll have to beat $5.01 though... Or, if you are a cheap-ass (like me) you can give me a buck for it if I win!

That's a Japanese-built radio, which is one of several Japanese products made in the late 60s with the KH nameplate. The same radio was sold as Hallicrafters, McMurdo-Silver, Silver-Marshall, Marconi, and several other hijacked names. I have a small collection of Japanese Kaye-Halbert items, including a few versions of that radio with & without clock, and an AM-FM large portable transistor, and a variety of small pocket transistor sets. Also a transistorized 3 inch reel-reel tape recorder and a 45-rpm car phono.
