1950 Admiral 36R45 finished

I am a noob to vintage tv service but I thought you might like to see this. Just finished this last week. Picked it up for 60.00. Total recap and alignment...to the best of my rookie ability. Radio and turntable work awesome as well. This was my first tv restoration, yes that's a predicta 10L43 on my bench.

hidin'

world is going into the crapper...been hidin' in a fallout shelter. My first tech school was in 1980 at TESST. Actually learned vacuum tube basics before digital theory and application. Been fixing this kind of stuff for a while. Restoration is a little more involved than fixing. Got alot of my bench equipment from an engineer that used to live next door to me years ago. I can use most of it, still learnin' scope etiquette. Hoping to get a little cram session on this site. Been audiokarma member for a while cuz I had alot of tube audio gear. Alot of knowledge to be had here..looking forward to hangin' out. This Admiral came out very well. The two predictas are a nice challenge for me. The 10L43 picture tube tested new and though flyback resistance was a little lower than I hoped (280ohms) i am still getting 10kv at anode. Wrestling a vertical deflection issue on it now. B+'s are within spec, possibly an issue with the 6fd7 substitution tube. It has a bright modulated hozontal line with good focus, just no vert deflection. I will post this issue in the correct thread. Oh yeah....the handle "whatadish" was my alias when I was hacking direct tv's h and hu cards back in the day.

Nice bench setup for a newbie.

I think you'll be successful in this hobby.

Well I guess you ain't been hidin' - Sounds like you can skip ahead a few grades.....
You remember that company that use to sell a stand alone computer that would
recalculate new numbers for DirecTV receivers.....? I thought that was quite a
setup for doin that....

There was always a rumor that there were test points in the receivers that would
bypass the card to display the signal......

I remember those days......

Anything you need to learn, you can find it here, or on youtube.....

As you will see I have restored just about everything but tv's. I still have my key generator setup complete with serial interface and card reade for old hu cards.
