New project, Olympic 14TD53

Now that the Silvertone is off the bench I decided my next project would be this 1955 Olympic.
This isn't a set a lot of people would bother with, it's kind of ratty looking but it has some sentimental value to me. I picked it up at an out of the way antique store on a trip to the town of Goldfield about ten or eleven years ago.

It's complete except for two small knobs and the 14HP4 CRT checks great , a very square cornered glass tube.

It's utterly dead except for the tube heaters, not a peep out of it, I suspect those old paper filter caps are as dry as a bone and the seleniums probably aren't in great shape either.

First thing was figuring out how to get the chassis out, turned out to be easy, just remove some screws and the whole cabinet lifts off, the chassis, the CRT and various other parts are mounted on the wood base.

All the tubes checked good, B+ is no more than line voltage so the double isn't working at all. It has a couple of those large multi section paper electrolytics, those things are almost never any good.

I'll take the chassis to work and blow the dirt out of it tomorrow and maybe wash it a little.

Take a look at those capacitors that were hacked in on top, I don't recall ever having the top off this set before but I suppose it's possible I did that trying to get it to run back when?

Check out he warning label telling you that the CRT is glued in place and to use some solvent to loosen it before trying to remove it.
Where was this label mounted? under the CRT of course where you can't see it. One corner of the tube was a little stuck but after 60 years the glue wasn't too strong any more.
