What to do??

Recapped CTC7 set as had old paper caps. Color is too saturated and off in color---- color and hue controls work, does TV need color section alignment???? I have the equipment and have never done this. Easy to do or leave job for TV repairman??? I don't have bench jig for this, can this be readily done with chassis in cabinet??, Does TV chassis need to be hooked up to CRT & Yoke to create proper signals??? Should O-scope be used??? Contrast control affects video signal and cuts it off leaving a dull grey/partly white raster. Suggestions??

If the color control works, why can't you get the color to be not too saturated? It just won't go far enough or what? What about the hue, what changes does it make to the colors? What exactly is wrong with the hues, example if you are looking at a green grass, person's face, blue sky etc., what is askew?

Have you made sure there are no weak tubes in color and video sections?
Color too saturated...maybe broken wire to color control.
What are the bad color symptoms...how does the hue control perform? Sounds like weak tubes may be a suspect.

Don't need to fiddle with chroma and burst coil adjustments until you have good black and white grey scale and know that your color is even working properly. First of all, turn off the color (if you can) and make sure the black and white picture is really black and white from near darkness to bright white. The RGB screens and bias controls are what you use for this.

Then (and only then) crank up the color intensity control to see what you have. That is where you need to begin for this. You can't tell if your hue is proper unless the grey scale is right to begin with.

I appreciate all of you guys responding with help. I'm going to take it to TV shop for alignment. The color and hue controls work, color is still wrong. Screen darkened all the way shows uneven gray/white raster. I'm expecting needs total alignment & hope to have set back in a week. The horiz output went bad and audio tube. All tubes have been tested and replaced weak ones. I'm excited, going to be my first color roundie restored.

I think you have a video output problem. My CTC-10 has done this in the past.

Personally I think you could benefit from letting us (well not me in particular, but the others in here who REALLY know this stuff!) probe you with some more questions if you are skilled enough to just tweak the adjustment pots on the back of the set... but if you want to take it to a shop, ok, but I hope they are old enough to know how to do these 'oldies but goodies'. I still don't know why you are saying it's too saturated if you say the saturation control is working, unless you are using a different meaning for saturation and you really mean one color is overiding the others or something like that. Some pictures posted of the screen and what you are saying the symptoms are would be a great help. Good luck...Frenchy

This could be a very simple problem. Could just need proper set up. Starting with purity (degaussing) and balance of screen controls. I'm suprised he could find a tv repair shop that will take this on.
